adventure race

Get ready for an exhilarating adventure that the whole family can enjoy together! Introducing The Pack and Wolf Cub Challenges, a brand new adventure race series designed specifically for families. Are you looking for a fun and thrilling event to do with your children, friends, or even grandparents? Look no further!

The founders of South East AR, all parents with young children, who came together to create this series of family friendly events as they realised there were very few races that involved the whole family. So they decided to create a race series that they would want to do themselves with their families. Events often can take the whole day and as parents this is often a luxury not available to us.

The Pack challenge, a 20 km event, will put your navigation skills to the test, while the Wolf Cub Challenge, an 8 km event, is fully marked and ideal for all family members. Both events include mountain biking, trail running, and a special fun stage to keep everyone entertained.

These Challenges are the perfect day out as you have the choice to race a longer event first (The Pack Challenge) and then to race the short race (The Wolf Cub Challenge) with your children or family/friends that may be intimidated doing the longer event. Alternatively you can race as a whole family in one event (small children in a trailer for example or in a back pack carrier). The core idea being that you are only out for a handful of hours but your family can be actively involved the whole time.

Follow the way markers, collect checkpoints along the course, and finish as a team. Whether you’re a seasoned campaigner or simply looking to have a day out with your family, The Pack and Wolf Cub Challenges are the perfect adventure for you. Prepare to tackle the course, collect your checkpoints, and create unforgettable memories. Are you up for the challenge?

The Thrilling Details of the Challenges

What The Pack Challenge Entails

The Pack Challenge is the a test of endurance, strategy, and teamwork. Spanning up to 20 km, it is designed for families and groups who are eager to push their limits. The challenge incorporates mountain biking, trail running, and a unique ‘fun stage,’ ensuring a varied and engaging experience.

Participants will need to navigate the mostly marked course using a map, selecting their own path to each checkpoint, if they feel that there is a better route than the marked one. This element of choice adds a tactical layer to the race, as teams must decide together the best route that plays to their strengths. The event is not timed, so there’s no pressure to rush; the focus is on the adventure and the fulfilment that comes from completing the course.

Families with older children or those with more experience in outdoor activities will find The Pack Challenge an exciting way to spend quality time together, challenging each other and the terrain in equal measure.

The Fun-filled Wolf Cub Challenge

Tailored for families with younger children or those new to adventure racing, the Wolf Cub Challenge offers an 8 km course that is fully marked, eliminating the need for navigation skills. This event still provides an adventurous experience through mountain biking and trail running but in a more controlled and predictable environment. The course is designed to be achievable for all, ensuring that every family member, regardless of age or fitness level, can participate and enjoy the thrill of adventure racing. The special fun stage adds an element of surprise and excitement to the race, providing a unique activity that can range from problem-solving puzzles to teamwork-based physical challenges.

This challenge is perfect for those seeking an introduction to the sport, aiming to inspire a love for outdoor activities and adventure in a fun and supportive setting.

The Rules and Team Dynamics

The foundation of The Pack and Wolf Cub Challenges is teamwork. Each team must start and finish together, underscoring the importance of cooperation and collective effort. A team can be made up of family members or friends, with a minimum of two participants and a maximum of 4. Teams must stay within visual contact of each other throughout the race. For safety and fairness, the challenges have rules that all teams must follow. These include wearing helmets during mountain biking segments and carrying a first aid kit. Additionally, teams are required to pass through all checkpoints in the correct order, and each member must be involved in the completion of the fun stage tasks. Understanding and adhering to these rules ensures that the event is enjoyable and safe for everyone involved, promoting a competitive but friendly atmosphere.
